5 kitchen interior design trends for 2017 & beyond

If one of your new year’s resolutions is to redecorate your kitchen, you’ll no doubt be interested to see what’s hot and what’s not in 2017. Here at HCSupplies, we pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest interior trends, so here are a few you certainly will be seeing in kitchens around the UK this year.

Go green

Aside from creating an eco-friendly kitchen, kitchens and home interiors  in general are set to get a lot greener this year. Greenery has been named Pantone’s colour of the year, following on from Rose Quartz and Serenity, which were named joint colours of the year in 2016. Green is the colour of fresh growth, signalling a new beginning, which is especially poignant when it comes to a kitchen makeover. Bold splashes of green can be added by the means of accessories, such as toasters and kettles, or through your choice of wallpaper or tiles.  Plus, there are certainly plenty of kitchen worktops that complement green decor.

However, the green theme can also extend to plant life. Many contemporary kitchens can feel a little too cold and clinical, with the minimalist style prevalent throughout. One way of breaking up the monotony, is to introduce some hanging gardens. Not only will these bring a burst of green to your interiors, but they also help to improve air quality.

Rustle up a little rustic charm

It’s something we’ve already touched on in my blog post about rustic style kitchens, but the charm of a farmhouse cottage kitchen with vintage-inspired decor is something that is increasingly appealing to both urban dwellers and rural residents alike.

The lure of rough and ready materials such as wood or exposed brickwork, along with country style furniture, is set to be massive feature of kitchens in 2017, and one of the hottest trends of the year.

Metal of the moment

Metal surfaces are nothing new in kitchens, with taps and accessories helping to add a gleaming finish to your decor. Despite a heavy reliance on chrome or steel, there are other metals out there which will prove just as popular in 2017.

Copper has been THE metal of the moment in recent times, and its popularity is still on the rise. It contrasts brilliantly against lighter shades, so why not add some copper accessories in the form of pans or storage baskets and give them a prominent position in your kitchen?

Russet and anthracite are other metallic finishes that will set your kitchen off perfectly. The metallic look can also extend to your appliances, splashbacks and even your kitchen worktop, with a wide range of laminate worktops that contain metallic or glitter flecks.

Faux finishes

Faux finishes, such as wood effect flooring, are set to make an impact in kitchens during 2017.

One of the rising trends in kitchen interiors, faux finishes will take hold even more this year, which is great news if you’re working to a tight budget. Wood or stone effect laminate worktops are ideal for those who want all the style but none of the expense or inconvenience that genuine materials can bring. Wood or stone effect flooring will feature heavily in homes this year.

Indeed, when it comes to flooring, parquet wood effect flooring is set to become even more popular, with wood or stone effect wall coverings set to usurp even the popular metro tile as the decor of choice!

In the navy

Do you really love moody blues when it comes to your interiors? Well, you’re certainly not alone! In 2017, navy blue is set to become the new black (or even grey judging by previous years), and will dominate interiors as the year progresses. Domination, or more perhaps the lack of it, is the very reason why the trend for navy blue is on the rise. With monochrome colour palettes proving popular in recent times, many homeowners have felt restricted to black, which, as we all know, can often feel oppressive, especially in confined spaces. Navy blue is a logical step to making a darker interior feel brighter.

Navy blue works with a whole array of accent colours, and you can find a wide range of laminate kitchen worktops that will fit in tonally with your chosen colour scheme.
